How To Become A Better Driver – Lady’s Edition

The best driver
Driving

Speaking of the name of a woman driver we know that getting good at driving might take time. It seems men are born to be drivers, but women feel less secure behind the wheel. This is not because they are less skilled, but because of the stereotypes that female drivers face.

Even though you took your driving license doesn’t make the people around you more supportive of your driving skills. Well, every new skill needs practice before you become a pro. This is our first piece of advice – practice as much as you can. Becoming a better driver takes practice. If you can find a place to drive where there are no distractions or other drivers, that’s ideal. Follow our other tips and don’t forget to believe in your skills.

Know the rules of the game

Imagine driving is a game. Any game has rules. Driving has rules as well and if you want to become a better driver you should know them. You probably study the traffic signs and road markings during your driving course but there is a big difference between recognizing them and knowing what to do when you drive.

This is the skill that can save your life or the life of someone else on the road. It’s very important to know when is your time to pass the road and when you should give the advantages to another driver. If you don’t feel confident enough in your knowledge of road signs, ask someone to help or you learn them with some youtube videos.

Follow speed limits

Speed limits are set based on a number of factors, including  road conditions,  traffic, and  weather conditions. In some cases, the speed limit may also be based on the city you are driving in.

The speed limit signs tell you the maximum, minimum, or mandatory speed limit that applies under ideal conditions. When you see a speed limit sign, you must follow it because it shows what speed is safe for the road conditions.

You might think that many drivers don’t follow speed limits. This doesn’t make them better drivers. A better driver is the one that respects the rules and puts safety first. If there is a special speed limit it means you should drive more carefully.

Always keep a distance between the vehicle in front

It’s your responsibility to keep a safe distance between you and the car in front. The same applies to the car behind. The driver must keep enough distance between his vehicle and yours.

What does the safe distance mean? This is the distance between the cars that give you enough time to react if the driver in front suddenly presses the brake. There is a rule that is very useful, especially for drivers with less experience.

Obviously, the more distance, the greater chance of avoiding a collision! The leading advice has been to maintain 2 car lengths between you and the vehicle in front of you. When you gather enough driving experience you can shorten this distance.

Adjust the mirrors before you start driving

A good driver always takes a few minutes to adjust the car before to start driving. Start with the seat. Be sure that your legs feel comfortable and can move fast from one foot pedal to another.

After you sit comfortably you should check the mirrors. Here’s a trick to help you make sure your rear view mirrors are correctly adjusted: lean your head over the center console so you can look directly at the rearview.

Adjust your passenger-side mirror from this position so that you barely see the edge of your vehicle. Then, put your cheek against the driver’s side window and do the same thing with that driver’s side mirror.

When you’re driving, it’s important to always check your side and rear view mirrors before you change lanes. This will help you avoid any potential accidents or traffic problems.

Last but not least, put on your belt. This can save your life!

Don’t get distracted – pay attention to what’s happening on the road

After a while driving on the highway it might become boring. Even then don’t take your phone because it will make you less attentive to the road situation. You never know what will happen in this one second you are checking your phone. Good drivers always keep their  attention focused on the road and the surroundings.

Driving in a big city might be a challenge for you. There are many things happening at the same time that you have to be aware of.

Here are a few things to pay attention to while diving in a city:

  • The flow of traffic.
  • Are you staying in your lane and following the rules of the road?

Following this pieces of advice you will become a better driver that cares about the safety of other people on the road.
